Deep, dark, bright ruby garnet with an opaque core and violet rim reflections. Fine, black berry and plum confit on the nose, underpinned by elegant wood spice and tobacco nuances, some vanilla pod, nougat and orange zest. Full-bodied and taut on the palate with juicy fruit, a powerful, spicy, almost earthy wine with a tight texture and elegant body, supported by well-integrated, present tannins. A great wine of considerable length with heart cherry fruit and a mineral note on the finish. Good ageing potential!
A strong, spicy character wine with great class!
Krutzler Winery – Deutsch-Schützen-Eisenberg, Southern Burgenland
Reinhold Krutzler is the fifth generation of his family to run the winery. The trained cellar master studied under Willi Bründelmayer and gained international experience in France, Italy and South Africa. His father Hermann, who was regarded as a winegrowing pioneer in southern Burgenland, laid the foundations for the high quality of Krutzler wines. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vines in the Weinberg vineyards (Deutsch-Schützen) and plots on the Eisenberg. They are 97% planted with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch (85%), Zweigelt and Merlot, the rest with Welschriesling. The flagship of the estate is the red wine “Blaufränkisch Perwolff”. This wine is made from the best Blaufränkisch grapes of each vintage and matures for 17 months in barriques and 500-liter barrels. Perwolff is an old name of Deutsch-Schützen dating back to the 13th century. The winery is a member of Renommierte Weingüter Burgenland.
